Etienne de Villiers

Since his call to the Ontario Bar in 2004, Etienne’s legal practice has focused on patent litigation and patent prosecution in the mechanical, electrical and high technology fields. He is a registered patent agent and trademark agent.
Etienne is the author or joint author of several articles on intellectual property topics published in various print and online publications. He is a member of the Computer Law Association, the American Bar Association and the Canadian Bar Association, and an Associate member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada. Etienne currently serves on the executive of the Toronto Intellectual Property Group.
Etienne earned his LL.B. from the University of British Columbia in 2003 and was twice the recipient of the Campney & Murphy Prize for Topics in Law and Technology. He completed an undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics from Queen's University before obtaining a M.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from McMaster University.
Etienne’s experience includes engineering research in the security systems field. His areas of study have included aerospace, manufacturing research, biomedical engineering, medical imaging, and sensors and control systems.
