Michael D. Crinson, Partner

Michael has practised exclusively in the field of intellectual property law since joining Dimock Stratton in 2000. He has experience as counsel in all types of intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark and copyright infringement and validity, disputes over inventorship and ownership, and trade secrets. Michael is also a registered patent and trademark agent.
Michael has experience as counsel before the Federal, Ontario and Alberta courts in a variety of proceedings including trials, appeals, and judicial review applications. He also has significant experience coordinating litigation in Canada with related litigation in other jurisdictions, notably in the United States and Europe. As counsel, Michael draws on his prior experience as a research scientist for a pharmaceutical company and as a Canadian university instructor in handling litigation in a variety of technical areas.  Michael also includes as part of his practice pro bono work for a charitable organization.
Michael is an active member of several professional organizations. He is the editor of the newsletter for the Canadian Group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI Canada), is active in committees with the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and has published several case reviews through the Canadian Bar Association IP website. He has spoken at the Annual and the Spring Meetings of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and has chaired several forums including the INFONEX Law Clerks Forum and the Canadian Law and Technology Forum. Michael is also active in local community and sports organizations.
Michael was called to the Ontario Bar in 1999. He received his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1997, after earning a M.Sc. (Biophysics) from the University of Guelph in 1991 and a B.Sc. (Biochemistry, Hons.) from the University of Dundee in 1989.
