Etienne de Villiers
Etienne de Villiers joined Dimock Stratton LLP in 2002 and was called to the bar in 2004. As an associate lawyer and Registered Patent Agent and Trade-mark Agent, his practice includes intellectual property litigation and patent prosecution with an emphasis in the mechanical, electrical and technology fields.
Etienne has experience and ongoing interest in a variety of advanced technology and engineering subject areas.
Etienne earned his LL.B. at the University of British Columbia in 2003 and was twice the recipient of the Campney & Murphy Prize in Topics in Law and Technology. He has an undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics from Queen's University and a Master's in Mechanical Engineering from McMaster University. Etienne worked in engineering
research before attending law school at a Toronto area security systems company. His fields of study have included aerospace, manufacturing research, biomedical engineering, medical imaging and sensors & control systems.
Etienne is the author and joint author of several articles on intellectual property topics published in various publications and on the Internet.
A number of his affiliations include being an associate member of IPIC, the Computer Law Association, the American Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association. Etienne
currently serves on the executive of the Toronto Intellectual Property Group.
