Adrian Kaplan

Adrian Kaplan is a partner of the firm. He specializes in patent and trade-mark prosecution and works with foreign associates to secure worldwide intellectual property rights for clients. As a Registered Patent Agent in both Canada and the United States, Adrian prosecutes patent applications in several fields including biochemistry, biotechnology and chemistry. He is also a Registered Trade-mark Agent, providing legal advice and prosecution services to clients in many industries.

With his expertise in life sciences, Adrian is able to advise clients on intellectual property issues arising in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields. He advises on patent strategy and provides opinions particularly in the fields of biochemistry and chemistry.

Adrian is active in the profession, writing and speaking regularly on subjects relating to intellectual property. He has been featured as a legal practitioner in the biochemical field in Law Times and has been interviewed on national television on the subject of biotechnology patents. He is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), and the International Trademark Association.

After graduating from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Science (with Distinction, Biochemistry) in 1990, Adrian obtained his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1993. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1995.
