David Reive David Reive

David Reive joined Dimock Stratton LLP in 1997 and was made a partner in 2000. David has extensive experience in intellectual property litigation, with a particular emphasis on patent litigation in the field of pharmaceuticals and biomedical devices.

David has experience in the complexities of multi-jurisdictional patent litigation and has worked closely with counsel in other countries to achieve global resolution of patent disputes.

He has been a contributor and presenter to intellectual property journals and conferences. He is the Chair of the Legal practice and Standards Committee of the Intellectual Property section of the Canadian Bar Association, and a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada.

David graduated with his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1990 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1992. He earned a Masters of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Ottawa in 1985 and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Queen's University in 1983. David is a Registered Patent and Trade-mark Agent.

Prior to law school, David worked for several years in the specialty chemicals business, focussing on additives for the building products and paint industry. David is an avid golfer and is active in Scouting.

representing pharmaceutical manufactures in patent and trade-mark litigation

prosecuting and defending patent litigation on behalf of biomedical device manufacturers

defending communication companies from claims of copyright infringement

acting in trade-mark litigation including appeals from the Trade-marks Office

litigating trade secret/breach of confidence actions in diverse technological fields including software, high technology devices, and explosives manufacturing technology
