TRIALS

Canada Law Book et al v Law Society of Upper Canada (2000), 2 C.P.R. (4th) 129

Represented the ‎plaintiffs at trial in the Federal Court in a copyright infringement action who were successful at trial in ‎obtaining a judgment that the Law Society’s custom photocopy service did not constitute fair dealing and ‎infringed the publishers’ copyright.‎

Milionis v Petropoulos (1988), 23 C.P.R. (3d) 52

Successfully represented the plaintiff at trial in a ‎copyright infringement action over newspaper articles and print advertising.‎

APPEARANCES IN THE
SUPREME COURT OF CANADA

SOCAN v Bell Canada (2012), 2 S.C.R. 326

Represented two interveners, Federation of Law Societies of Canada and ‎CanLII, before the Supreme Court of Canada in an appeal over the issue of fair dealing for the purpose ‎of research in music previews by consumers. The decision was favorable to my clients.‎

Robertson v Thomson Corp (2006), 2 S.C.R. 363

Represented the plaintiff and her class of freelance authors in a class action ‎lawsuit over the re-use of articles in online and electronic databases by The Globe and Mail and other ‎Thomson companies. The Supreme Court of Canada ruled in favor of my client.

SELECTED CASES

TSX Inc v Canadian Trading and Quotation Systems Inc.

Represented the defendants in an action ‎involving alleged copyright in messaging protocols used by Canadian stock markets and obtained a ‎favourable settlement before trial.‎

Estate of Pablo Picasso

Obtained an interim injunction for the Estate of Pablo Picasso preventing the ‎imminent opening of a restaurant making unauthorized use of the famous artist’s name and signature ‎and infringing copyright in many of his works of art.‎

Eldorado Stone

Brought an action for copyright infringement with respect to stone veneer products and ‎obtained a favourable settlement before trial.‎
